MANILA, Philippines – A fire that razed homes in Sitio Little Janiuay, Barangay Cubay, Jaro, Iloilo on Thursday caused damage worth around P300,000, authorities said.

Five houses, owned by Danilo Lopez, Ricky Lallen, Jacinto Veloria, Elsie Coronado, and Rene Veloria, were razed while two were partially damaged.

Authorities said most of the houses were made of light materials.

A fireman, identified as Fire Insp. Jesus Valenzuela, was hurt in the incident but is now out of danger.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) believes that a short circuit could have caused the fire.

The BFP is appealing to the public to take extra careful when using their appliances, as well as lighted candles, especially during the celebration of All Saints’ Day. -- Report from Regi Adosto, ABS-CBN News Iloilo
