MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang on Monday dismissed apprehensions that Philex Mining's problems would make local communities less receptive to mining operations.
Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Philex concerns are being handled right now by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The Palace expects DENR to enforce environmental laws.
Reports said some fishermen have already been affected by the environmental damage caused by a Philex mine leak in Benguet.
"I understand that there's going to be an investigation or there has been an investigation conducted by the DENR. So, I'm not clear. Let me just verify with Secretary (Ramon) Paje if there's already any findings on the investigation" Lacierda said.
