ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR – At least 1,200 families in Poblacion Imelda and 50 families in Barangay Bula-an, Buug in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay were evacuated to a safer place due to 5-foot deep floods.

Two families, meanwhile, were evacuated to higher ground due to a landslide in Purok 3, Barangay Lamare, Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur caused by nonstop rainfall since Wednesday due to tropical storm "Ofel".

In coordination with the local chief executives, concerned units of the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division in the area immediately assisted the local officials to prepare the affected families for evacuation and coordinate disaster rescue and relief operations (DRRO) by the troops.

Troops from the Army’s 44th Infantry Battalion immediately responded and undertook DRRO missions in Imelda using the municipal gymnasium as an evacuation area.

Soldiers of the 102nd Infantry Brigade conducted rescue operations in Barangay Bulaan, while peace and development teams of the 53rd Infantry Battalion situated in Bayog immediately responded and helped the families affected by the landslides.

During the ocular inspection in the affected areas by the concerned local officials, around 150 persons from Bula-an were evacuated to the Villa Castor Elementary School.
