MANILA, Philippines – A construction worker was killed and 19 others were injured in a road accident in Lagonoy town, Camarines Sur on Saturday.

One of the survivors of the crash, Junjun Mendaros, said 20 construction workers headed for Albay were onboard a dump truck when the vehicle lost control in the vicinity of Barangay Burabod.

The truck swerved out of control and turned over, crushing the workers.

Angel Trillanes was killed in the accident. The other workers were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The truck’s driver Alex Porteria told police that his leg cramped up and he accidentally stepped on the brakes, causing the truck to swerve uncontrollably.

Police said the driver may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.

Meanwhile, the truck’s owner, Alro Construction, said it will shoulder the hospital expenses of the injured workers. -- Report from Jonathan Magistrado, ABS-CBN News Bicol
