MANILA, Philippines – The election protest filed against Camarines Norte 2nd District Rep. Elmer Panotes has been dismissed by the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET).

The HRET, composed of 3 justices and 6 congressmen, voted 8 to 1 in favor of the dismissal of the protest filed by former Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Liwayway Vinzons Chato.

In its decision, HRET said that after a recount and examination of evidence of the 160 contested precincts, Panotes had 51,878 votes compared to Chato's 47,988.

The recount yielded 8 more votes than the proclamation margin of 3,882.
