MANILA – A 47-year-old American wanted for sexually molesting a child in California has been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Cebu.

The US Embassy sent the immigration bureau an advisory that the passport of the suspect, Scott David Shrum, was revoked last April after he was declared wanted by two California courts for child molestation.

Investigations by the BI showed that Shrum had been staying with a family in Cebu, whom he considers as his adoptive family.

Shrum, meanwhile, denied the allegation that he was avoiding prosecution in the US.

He said he arrived in the Philippines last December as a tourist and was advised by his lawyer that the case filed against him in the US had already been dismissed.

The BI said there are no cases pending against Shrum in the Philippines, and he is expected to be deported to California soon. -- Report from Niko Baua, ABS-CBN News
