MANILA – An alleged sub-leader of terrorist group Abu Sayyaf has been captured in central Mindanao, authorities said.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome said the suspect, Sali Basal Taib, was arrested in the vicinity of Wal Primary School in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat Tuesday morning.

Taib is wanted for charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention in Isabela City, Basilan.

Bartolome said an informant gave a tip that led to the arrest, in an operation conducted by Task Force Sanglahi-A Mindanao Team led by Supt. Leonardo Felonia, under the supervision of Sr. Supt. Abelardo Villacorta, deputy director of PNP Intelligence Group and commander of Task Force Sanglahi.

A P3.3 million bounty was offered for any information that could lead to Taib’s arrest.

Taib will be presented before the court after he is processed.
