MANILA, Philippines – A Manila police officer was shot dead by unidentified men riding in tandem on a motorbike in Laguna on Saturday morning.

SPO3 Oscar Maristoses was gunned down by the unidentified suspects along Lotus Street, Saint Joseph 9 Village in San Pedro, Laguna.

A man named Eddie Bande said he witnessed the whole incident.

"Nakita ko 'yung riders na dumaan dito. Nasalubong siya dito. Umikot na tapos 'yung isa naglakad na. Paglakad, pagdating diyan, tinutukan siya sabay putok. Tapos, sumakay ulit ng motorsiklo. Ayun, humarurot na," Bande said.

Authorities recovered the motorcycle used by the suspects. The gunmen reportedly abandoned it inside the subdivision.

Based on an initial report from the San Pedro police, Maristoses was on his way to the market when the suspects shot him in the head.

The motive behind the killing of Maristoses is still unknown and the case is under investigation, said San Pedro police commander Kirby Craft.

Maristoses served the mobile unit of the Manila Police District for more than 10 years. -- Report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
