5 people hurt in violent demolition in Tarlac
MANILA, Philippines – At least five people were injured during a violent demolition at Block 7, San Roque in Tarlac City before noon on Saturday.
A certain Ariel Valdez and four other residents were hit tangentially with gun bullets in the area.
Valdez claimed that the owner of the land where their houses were built sent security guards who forcefully tried to evict them from the land.
That was when the violence emerged causing the guards to open fire, Valdez said.
Bryan Buscayno, a capitol employee, said he also witnessed the chaotic event.
The security guards, meanwhile, said they only opened fire to defend themselves as the residents were also throwing bottles at them.
The guards stressed they only fired warning shots.
Meanwhile, police said the rights on the land were already turned over to sheriff Danilo Junio thus the land’s owner has power to conduct demolition of shanties in the area.
Nonetheless, the police said that does not absolve the guards for what they did. All 13 of them will be subjected to a paraffin test.
The residents said they are also willing to file cases against the security guards. – from a report by Jing Vallejos, ABS-CBN News Central Luzon
