MAGUINDANAO, Philippines -- A passenger bus turned turtle along the national highway in Datu Montawal, Maguindanao on Wednesday morning, injuring at least 20 people.

A Weena air conditioned bus (plate no. MVW 9030) was on its way to Cotabato City from Davao when the accident took place at around 11:30 a.m. in Barangay Pagagawan.

Police said the bus, which was driven by Adam Abuan, slid on the wet asphalt road even if it was running at 40 kilometers per hour.

The road was slippery because of the heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning.

However, village chief Ibrahim Unsay blamed the accident on a “white lady”.

He cited stories from his ancestors that the area where the accident happened is haunted, and that spirits inhabit the spot.

Unsay advised motorist to pay respects when passing through that area in Barangay Pagagawan.

He said drivers should maintain slow speed, and acknowledge the spirits by blowing their horn.

The injured passengers were brought to Kabacan Medical specialist for treatment of their bruises.

This is the second time a road accident happened in the area.
