MANILA - President Benigno Aquino III on Sunday will attend the burial of his close-in bodyguard, PO3 Ryan "Bong" Fuyonan, in Santo Niño, South Cotabato.

Hours ahead of Aquino's arrival, authorities have already set up check and choke points across Santo Niño for his safety.

Just this week, at least 18 people were wounded in a bus bombing in South Cotabato.

Fuyonan was diagnosed with cancer in April. He was earlier described in an Instagram post by presidential sister Kris Aquino as one of the President's most dependable and efficient close-ins.

My sisters were able to join PNoy at the wake yesterday of PO3 Ryan "Bong" Fuyonan to condole w/ his family. My sister Pinky text to say his family was happy I spoke of him on IG, so I asked Rochelle to send me pictures so I can make a collage. Bong was w/ Noy since his days in Congress, from 2004, followed by the Senate in 2007, and Malacañang in 2010. My brother said Bong was trustworthy & 1 of the most dependable & efficient among his close in. It was heartwarming to see that he got to join PNoy in so many of his State visits. He was diagnosed w/ cancer only this April. Unfortunately the cancer started in his pancreas and quickly spread to his liver. I would like to send my condolences to his wife Liza & his daughter Precious. They'll be flying w/ his remains to Gen San tomorrow. Thank you to Bong for the unwavering loyalty & service he gave our brother for 11 years. (The picture w/ Pope Francis is especially touching because he got to shake hands because PNoy had called him to come closer to get the special opportunity.)
