Mangudadatu seeks re-election
MANILA, Philippines – Maguindanao Governor Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu has formalized his re-election bid in the province.
Mangudadatu filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) in Cotabato on Thursday under heavy security.
In 2009, Mangudadatu lost his wife and relatives in the Maguindanao massacre, considered the worst election-related killings in Philippine history.
The victims were filing Mangudadatu's COC on his behalf when they were murdered along with several journalists and lawyers allegedly by Mangudadatu's rival, the Ampatuans.
A nephew of former Governor Andal Ampatuan, provincial board member Yasser Ampatuan, joined Mangudadatu’s convoy on Thursday. -- Report from Jorge Cariño, ABS-CBN News; ANC
