MANILA, Philippines – A female board member of Sarangani province is set to challenge the vice-gubernatorial bid of Jinkee Pacquiao, wife of boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao.

Eleanor Saguiguit, a former ally of Congressman Pacquiao, is planning to file her certificate of candidacy (COC) on Friday.

Jinkee, on the other hand, filed her COC on Tuesday and is running under the United Nationalist Alliance and her husband’s People’s Champ Movement Party.

Jinkee’s decision to run for public office came as a surprise to residents, but her husband defended the bid, saying it was “God’s will.”

Pacquiao, meanwhile, has also formalized his intention of seeking a second term as a Sarangani representative.

Pacquiao’s brother, Roel, is also seeking a congressional seat in South Cotabato’s 1st district. -- Report from Jay Dayupay, ABS-CBN News SOKSARGEN
