ILOCOS NORTE - Three green sea turtles were released back into the sea in Currimao, Ilocos Norte Saturday morning.

The green sea turtles were accidentally entangled in the fishing net of four fishermen from Barangay Gaang, Currimao.

The two small turtles, measuring 25 centimeters and weighing approximately 60 grams each, were caught on September 28, while the big one was caught the next day.

The fishermen immediately reported the incident to the municipal agriculture office.

Before the three sea turtles were released, small metal tags were placed on their shells as a sign that they were seen in the sea of Currimao.

Authorities appealed to fishermen to turn over to them in case they catch sea turtles and other marine mammals.

The presence of turtles in the sea of Currimao, Ilocos Norte is a manifestation of its rich and clean environment.

With this, the local government is now planning to establish a sanctuary for the preservation of these endangered species.
