TALISAY CITY, Philippines - Bernard Liu, a businessman and a former government witness in a drug case involving Peter and Willington Lim in 2002, was found dead inside his compound in Barangay Tangke, Talisay City on Thursday afternoon.

Barangay tanods and police went inside his home after neighbors of the victim told police that it has been 2 weeks since they last saw him going out his home.

The authorities found the decomposing body of Liu outside his kitchen.

Senior Police Officer 3 Daniel Tarucan said that some of the victim's valuables are missing.

This includes the urn of the ashes of Liu's father, which is worth P50,000.

Liu was living alone in his house.

His children last visited him on August 30. His family refused to give comment on the incident.

Tarucan said they will be waiting for the result of an autopsy on Liu's body to find out what caused the victim's death.

Liu was a witness in a drug case in 2002.

Ananias Dy, who also testified in a congressional hearing in the said case against the accused Peter and Willington Lim, was killed in 2009.

Tarucan said that they cannot discount the possibility that Liu's death was related to the dug case.

They want his family to cooperate with them in their investigation.

Tarucan said last July, Liu was stabbed in a robbing incident.

The victim had a money-lending business.
