MANILA, Philippines – The state weather bureau has lifted public storm warning signal number 3 over the Batanes group of islands as typhoon "Lawin" moves away from the country.
In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA placed Batanes under signal no. 2.
Storm warning over Calayan ang Babuyan groups of islands was also downgraded to signal no. 1.
Lawin was located 290 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes at 10 a.m.
It was still packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph.
The typhoon was moving north-northeast at 13 kph. With this speed and direction, Lawin is expected to be 540 kms northeast of Itbayat, Batanes by Saturday morning.
