COTABATO CITY, Philippines – A mother and her son were arrested after allegedly trying to sell illegal drugs to undercover agents in Cotabato City on Tuesday afternoon.
Grace Cinco and son Pejie were caught with 37 sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) by members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
The buy-bust operation was conducted in Purok Sampaloc, Barangay Bagua.
Anti-illegal drug agents said they will use as evidence the text message of Grace to her son warning of the raid.
Grace denied that she was selling illegal drugs. Her son, however, admitted to selling the illegal items due to poverty.
The suspects are now in the custody of the PDEA-ARMM. They are facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002
PDEA-ARMM Director Yogi Filemon Ruiz said the arrest of the two suspects is his fourth successful operation since he assumed office three weeks ago. So far, nine illegal drug suspects have been arrested under his leadership.
