MANILA, Philippines – Three children died of severe diarrhea in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, a health official said on Wednesday.
Dr. Ignacio Moreno, Misamis Oriental provincial health officer, said at least 199 cases of diarrhea have been recorded in the town since the year started, but they have yet to determine the cause.
Moreno said, however, water samples taken from barangays Poblacion, Looc, Katipunan and Dayawan tested positive for bacteria.
Health officials continue to distribute oral rehydration solutions to the diarrhea patients who are mostly children.
The local government also promised financial assistance to the families of those who died. – report from Fred Dellava, dzMM
