The Alaminos Tourism Office is banning “sisid boys” from diving in Lucap Wharf because of health risks to the children.

Alaminos Tourism Officer Miguel Sison said local youths earned the nickname by diving for coins thrown by tourists into the water.

The city government is now requesting tourists to stop throwing coins to the sisid boys to prevent them from diving.
The local Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) office said families of the sisid boys do not use the diving activity as a source of income.
DSWD Officer Elizabeth Radoc said the parents of the boys have jobs. The sisid boys are just fond of the tourists who visit Alaminos City in Pangasinan.
Hermie Rabago, a mother of one of the sisid boys, said she has discouraged her son from diving for coins. "Pinagbawal ko sabi ko mag-aral na lang siya..." she said.
