MANILA, Philippines – Two militiamen died in an ambush incident in Sumisip, Basilan on Thursday afternoon.
Police identified the fatalities as Isa Kasilan and Anting Pantasan, both members of the the Special Civilian Armed Auxilliary (SCAA).
The victims were on their way home to Tipo-Tipo town when at least 10 armed men opened fire at them at around 4 p.m. in Barangay Sapah Bulak.
Civilian Amil Antasari, and militiamen Alip Pantasan, Bistiran Pantasan, Key Kasilan and Daru Mandokol, were injured in the ambush.
Authorities said the the group that ambushed the victims was led by Wims Wakil, tagged in a series of extortion and killings of rubber plantation workers in the province.
