MANILA, Philippines – A municipal councilor and a Chinese Malaysian businessman were killed when their vehicle fell off a bridge in Davao Oriental early dawn on Thursday.

Lupon, Davao Oriental councilor Romeo Bote Jr. and Chinese-Malaysian businessman Won Ken Hung died on the spot.

The two just attended a wedding at Banaybanay, Davao Oriental and were on their way back to Lupon when Bote lost control of his vehicle while approaching a bridge in Barangay Poblacion Batasan around 12:30 a.m.

“Nawalan ng kontrol ang sasakyan kasi mabilis ang takbo kaya nangyari yun,” said Chief Inspector Juliu Bargio, chief of the Lupon Police.

The vehicle first slammed into the bridge’s approach before it plunged 15-feet deep towards a pig pen and chicken coop owned by the Tutor family.

The family said they lost 4 pigs and chickens due to the accident.

Meantime, Roselyn Bohol is thankful that the vehicle did not land on their home where she and her family were sleeping.

Bote had been drinking prior to the accident, according to Lupon Mayor Domingo Lim, who attended the same wedding event in Banaybanay. - from a report by Claire Cornelio, ABS-CBN News
