7 killed, 5 missing in Tawi-Tawi sea mishap

MANILA, Philippines – At least 7 people died while 5 remain missing after a boat sank off Tawi-Tawi before dawn Thursday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

PCG Spokesman Lieutenant Commander Armand Balilo said M/V Siranan, carrying 27 passengers, sank off Barangay Pasiagan in Bongao town at around 4 a.m.

Fifteen of the boat's passengers were rescued.

Meanwhile, search and rescue operations by members of the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Navy and maritime police were still ongoing, as of posting.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the accident. – report from Noel Alamar, dzMM
