MANILA, Philippines – More than 20 workers of a canning factory were injured after the truck carrying them slammed into a parked passenger jeepney along the highway of Barangay Cabaluay, Zamboanga City, Saturday morning.

About 80 workers were onboard the truck and were travelling from Barangay Tagasilay to the canning factory in Barangay Recodo, when the truck's driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed the jeep.

The jeep's driver and several others were reportedly changing the tires when the vehicle was hit.

The driver said they had put up an early warning device but the truck's driver may have failed to see it.

Twenty-four of the 80 workers were rushed to the hospital after suffering injuries.

As of 3 p.m. on Saturday, only 4 were confined the hospital.

The truck's driver is now in the custody of Zamboanga Police Station 3 while the management of the canning company has vowed to shoulder all medical expenses of the victims and damages caused to the jeep.
