MANILA, Philippines - Almost four months after it crashed into the waters off Mariveles, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) has finally retrieved the wreckage of the SF-260TP “Warrior” aircraft on Saturday morning.
The 15th Strike Wing, the PAF unit responsible for the operations, have yet to recover the body of 1LT Michael Arugay.
The body of the aircraft’s other pilot, Major Neil Tumaneng, was found near the shore also in Mariveles just last month.
Combined efforts of the Philippine Navy and volunteer technical divers were able to discover the wreckage off the coast of Mariveles. Divers secured the wreckage with ropes before the Philippine Navy's AS71 vessel pulled it up to the surface.
PAF commanding general Lt. Gen. Lauro Catalino dela Cruz has already ordered the immediate investigation on the cause of the plane crash.
