MANILA, Philippines – Unidentified suspects fired at a truck carrying rubber tappers in Tumahubong, Sumisip, Basilan on Friday, leaving 1 person killed and 30 others hurt.
According to Maj. Gen. Rainier Cruz, commanding general of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division, initial reports said that 5 are in critical condition.
A military source, meanwhile, said at least 20 of those wounded will be airlifted to Zamboanga City to get medical attention.
The military has yet to identify the perpetrators in the most recent attack against rubber tappers of the Tumahubong Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Development Cooperative (TARBIDC).
Earlier this year, about 3 ambuscades were reported in the same area.
Authorities suspect that a land and leadership dispute may have been the motive behind the attack. -- Report from Queenie Casimiro, ABS-CBN News Zamboanga
