Vendors' group leader shot dead in Batangas

TANAUAN, Batangas – The president of Muslim Vendors Association in this city was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen Friday morning, police said.

Superintendent Chris Olazo, chief of Tanauan Police, identified the victim as Omar Sarip, a resident of Barangay Sambat, also in Tanauan City.

Police said the victim was about to open his store in Barangay Poblacion 7 when the one of the suspects shot him from behind using a .45-caliber pistol at around 6:10 a.m.

Sarip, 32, died on the spot after sustaining gunshot wounds to his head and body.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing. An operation has been launched to capture the suspects who immediately fled the scene after the shooting.
