MANILA – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off General Santos City on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the epicenter of the earthquake was located 84 kilometers southeast of General Santos City at 7:46 a.m.
Intensity II was felt in General Santos City; Kidapawan City; Koronadal, South Cotabato; and Davao City.
The quake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of a local fault. It had a depth of 143 kilometers.
Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected but damage from the quake is unlikely.
