Seven towns in Iloilo have been affected by farm rodents, but the local agriculture officials assured Friday of more rice production output during the rainy season.

The provincial agriculture office in Iloilo said that farm lands in San Dionesio, San Rafael, Lemery, New Lucena, Pototan, Dumangas and Calinog have experienced "rat attacks," which started weeks ago.

The 7 towns are now being closely monitored by the agricultural office for more possible attacks by rodents as the harvest season nears.

Carmelo Orin, provincial rice program coordinator, meanwhile, said that the rising incidents of rat attacks in the province should not be a cause for alarm.

Orin said they are even expecting a higher volume of rice production because of the wet season, which prevents the rise in farm rodents' population.

Orin and other local agriculturists also lauded Iloilo farmers for initiating the "bayanihan system" to catch and eliminate destructive farm rats. With a report from Regi Adosto, ABS-CBN Iloilo
