ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - Around 201 families have been affected by flooding in Barangay Curuan in Zamboanga City, the local Social Welfare Office said Monday.
Seven houses in the village were destroyed by the floods, according to social welfare officer Francisco Barredo.
The houses were washed offshore, he said.
The local government has distributed relief goods to affected families.
On Saturday, hundreds of residents left their homes because of the flash flood.
The incident caught them offguard since there had been no such flooding in the past, according to village chief Noel Perez.
The local government has denied that the flooding was caused by either logging operations or small-scale mining in Curuan.
The city agriculturist is still estimating the financial losses caused by the flash flood.
