MANILA – The policeman who was caught on camera quarreling with a woman said to be his wife has been relieved from his post.
Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr., chief of Davao City Police, was relieved from his post to pave the way for an investigation into the case filed by his wife.
Danao, who was seen shouting and hitting a woman in a video that has gone viral, is facing charges of grave misconduct and physical injuries.
Danao will remain at the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit while an investigation on his case is ongoing.
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who earlier defended Danao against criticisms, said the sacked police chief remains his top choice to lead the city's police force.
Duterte said Danao's performance is exemplary, citing how he helped solve the Richard King slay case. – report from Elric Ayop, ABS-CBN News Davao
