COTABATO CITY – A district supervisor of the Department of Education (DepEd) and her husband were shot dead in Pikit, North Cotabato on Sunday afternoon.

Violeta Flores Almazan, DepEd district supervisor in Midsayap town, and her husband Gervacio were shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen.

Police Inspector Mautin Pangandigan, Pikit Police chief, said the victims were on board a motorcycle and were on their way to their home in Magpet town when they were shot along Pikit National Highway in Barangay Dalengaoen.

Gervacio, a 63-year-old retired government employee, died on the spot. Violeta, 62, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Authorities have yet to identify the assailants and motive behind the ambush, but they already ruled out robbery because the motorcycle of the victims was not taken away by the suspects.

"Babalik pa kami sa area kasi baka may makuhang evidence. Yung motive baka may kinalaman sa trabaho, baka wala rin. Mag uusap-usap pa kami ng Midsayap and Magpet PNP para makakuha pa ng ibang information" Pangandigan said.
