MANILA, Philippines – A fire razed the Maria Cristina Switchyard of the National Power Corporation in Agus 6 Hydro Electric Power Plant, causing a blackout in Iligan City around 11 p.m. on Saturday.

According to Iligan Light and Power Incorporated (ILPI), the power utility firm of Iligan City, the cable of the switchyard’s control panel was damaged.

Initial information from Fire Investigator Henry Baguio Jr. said the switchyard encountered trouble in its electric lines.

It was around 3 a.m. on Sunday that the firefighters were able to stop the blaze.

Authorities are still investigating the real cause of the fire.

ILPI, meantime, said it will temporarily source electricity from Lugait substation while other substations will remain powerless while repair is ongoing.

ILPI also said the National Grid Corporation did not give them a timetable as to when power can be restored. – from a report by Ronnie Enderes, ABS-CBN News Iligan
