MANILA (UPDATED) - Three inmates and one guard were killed following a jailbreak at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Barangay Poblacion, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte on Friday evening.
Zamboanga police said inmates managed to escape after one of the detainees was able to grab a .45-caliber pistol and engaged jail guards in a 30-minute shootout.
The jailbreak occurred at around 7:55 p.m.
Killed in the incident were jail guard JO1 Ryan Dale Bagon and two inmates identified as Ruel Humoc and Preciouso Humoc, both charged with murder.
The other inmate killed has yet to be identified.
Four other inmates -- Reneboy Humoc, Lito Magsayo, Ryllmark Canonio and Zenaid Insu -- and two jail guards -- JO2 Roldan Felizarta and JO1 Patric Galvez -- were wounded.
Two policemen who responded to the incident, identified as PO3 Romel Jay Hachuela and PO1 Paul Tombic, were also wounded.
They were brought to the Zamboanga City Hospital and Siocon District Hospital for treatment.
The escaped detainees were later captured in manhunt operations. All of them have been accounted for.
