MANILA - The Office of the Ombudsman dismissed the municipal treasurer of Tupi, South Cotabato for failing to liquidate over P700,000 in government funds and falsifying an official receipt.

In a statement released Wednesday, the Ombudsman said Samuel Sunico incurred a total cash shortage of P717,812.79 from November 27, 2007 to June 17, 2008.

Records also showed that Sunico falsified a government-issued official receipt by making it appear in the duplicate and triplicate copies that Dole Philippines Inc. paid taxes in the amount of only P30.

The Ombudsman said the original copy of the receipt showed that Dole Philippines Inc. paid a total of P344,379.77.

Aside from dismissal from service, Sunico also faces cancellation of eligibility, forfeiture of retirement benefits, and perpetual disqualification for re-employment in the government service.
