MANILA - The suspect in the shooting of Dagupan City radio commentator Orly Navarro has been arrested.

Police said the suspect was Navarro's 46-year-old neighbor.

"Base sa statement ng witnesses and victim mismo kaya na-identify namin at inaresto namin. We are still gathering additional evidences to substantiate the filing of charge," said Dagupan City Police Chief Supt. Christopher Abrahano.

He said they have also yet to identify the motive behind the shooting of Navarro.

Navarro, 54, the station manager of DWIZ, was shot by a lone gunman near his home in Barangay Pantal before dawn on Tuesday.

He sustained a gunshot wound in his shoulder and back. He is set to undergo operation today.

The suspect, who was not identified, denied shooting Navarro.

"Nasa bahay ako noon, tulog. Hindi ako ang bumaril sa kanya. Hindi naman kami nag-away," he said.

Authorities, meanwhile, are still waiting for the results of a paraffin test on the suspect. -- Report from Melanie Heng, ABS-CBN News
