KAPATAGAN, Lanao del Norte – Armed men shot dead 4 people on board a passenger bus early dawn Thursday in Lanao del Norte.

The victims were identified as bus driver Jaime Duhaylungsod, 58, policemen Senior Police Office 1 Rosalito Obatay, Police Officer 1 Jovito Cabigas, and bus conductor Archie Bastasa, 20.

Other passengers were unharmed in the attack that happened past 1 a.m. along the highway of Barangay Balili in Kapatagan.

According to some passengers, 9 armed men dressed in police uniforms flagged the bus along the highway.

The suspects ordered the more than 20 passengers to get off the bus and then shot the driver.

They also shot the 2 police officers who were on the bus and the conductor.
Kapatagan Police said the suspects brought the bodies out of the bus before setting the vehicle on fire.

The bus came from Cagayan de Oro and was on its way to Zamboanga City when the attack happened.

Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Director Superintendent Orlando Benyas said the attack is the second incident that happened in Kapatagan, which is why they decided to deploy police escorts on board passenger buses.

However, the police escorts probably did not notice that the checkpoint was illegal.
