MANILA - Authorities on Tuesday seized a yacht allegedly used to smuggle high-powered firearms into the country.

Probers said MY (motor yacht) Mou Man Tai is connected with the MV Capt Ufuk, which was seized after it was found to be carrying 50 pieces of high-powered rifles and assorted military accessories last week.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) nabbed MY Mou Man Tai captain Derek Colin Gordon Neville and the rest of his crew shortly after their vessel was spotted sailing in Puerto Galera in Occidental Mindoro.

Investigators believe the MY Mou Man Tai was used for gun smuggling activities just like the MV Capt Ufuk.

Neville admitted to the PCG that his yacht was used by MV Capt Ufuk skipper Bruce Jones to escape from last week’s raid.

Reports earlier said that MV Capt Ufuk was skippered by a certain Capt. Lawrence John.

Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales said the bureau has created a fact-finding unit to delve into the operations of MV Captain Ufuk and MY Mou Man Tai.

Smuggling and illegal entry charges will be filed against the captain and his crew. With reports from Ron Gagalac and Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
