MANILA – A municipality in the province of Batangas has put up a P100,000 cash reward for information that would lead to the arrest of a suspect who burned down a house on Friday.

Mayor Epifanio Sandoval of San Nicolas identified the suspect as Diosdado "Conrad" Marquez.

"Kailangan talagang mahuli para di mapamarisan ito. Magbibigay ako ng P100,000 sa sinuman ang makakahuli at makakapagturo sa suspect na ito," the mayor said.

Sandoval said the 52-year-old mechanic went to the house of Toto Landicho and looked for his 15-year-old stepdaughter.

When told that his stepdaughter was not there, Marquez allegedly tried to stab Landicho, but was prevented by the victim's brother, Lito.

Lito decided to keep his brother out of harm's way by bringing him to his home, not far from the area.

Sandoval explained that the teenager's mother is the niece of Landicho's wife. The girl is allegedly afraid of the suspect who attempted to rape her.

The mayor said the Landichos saw the suspect dip a cloth inside the gas tank of his motorcycle and then went inside Toto's house, which was left open, and set the place on fire.

No one was injured in the fire. -- Report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
