MANILA -- The Department of Health (DOH) has launched an investigation on the case of Jannary "Yanna" Chan, the 10-year-old girl who died after she was allegedly rejected by Butuan Doctors Hospital.

On an episode of "Failon Ngayon" aired Saturday, Health Secretary Enrique Ona said they are already investigating the case.

"I am also sending our head ng hospital accreditation committee to look into the case to make sure that there is certain so-called abuse, or baka naman hindi lang nagkakaintindihan ng husto ito," Ona added.

However, for Dr. Gene Nisperos of the Health Alliance for Democracy, the government needs to do more than just to investigate the case.

In a press conference on August 15, the officials of Butuan Doctors Hospital denied allegations that their staff refused to admit Chan, adding it was the patient's mother's decision to leave their facility.

"Kung hindi kami ni-reject, bakit kami umalis? Bakit kami babiyahe pa ng mas malayo? Kung stable, bakit namatay [si Yanna]?" Tutz Salarda-Chan, Yanna's mother, said.
