MANILA -- Search teams continue to scour the Sumaguing cave in Sagada, Mountain Province for a local tourist who had been missing for five days now.

Irene Manawis, who is from Dagupan, Pangasinan, went missing Sunday afternoon.

The search team, which includes Manawis' husband Ariel and son Desmond, the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, and tour guides, said they are being hampered by lack of equipment as well as narrow and slippery passageways inside the cave.

Authorities said a flashflood that occurred inside the cave may have swept Manawis and brought her to the other end.

Elders in Sagada conducted a dao-es or a cleansing ritual which they believe will drive away evil spirits from the cave and guide the rescue team to Manawis. -- Report from Joel Rigonan, ABS-CBN Regional Network Group
