COTABATO CITY - An eight-year-old boy drowned in a private fishpond in San Mateo, Aleosan, North Cotabato on Tuesday morning, police said.
Aleosan police said six Grade 2 students of Aleosan Central Elementary School went to the private fishpond owned by a certain Rogelio Cantomayor at around 11 a.m. to play and swim.
The fishpond's caretaker, Noli Jun Osmolo, said he warned the kids not to play and swim there. The children, however, ignored him.
On Wednesday, two residents of Barangay San Mateo went to the fishpond to look for the eight-year-old boy, who failed to come home on Tuesday.
Minutes later, they found the bag and the school uniform of the victim beside the fishpond.
Fishpond workers then searched for the boy and found his dead body.
Police said the five other pupils knew about the incident but kept quiet about it.
