MANILA, Philippines – A boy died at the height of typhoon Igme's onslaught in northern Luzon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
The NDRRMC identified the first fatality from the typhoon as Michael DC Estacio, who drowned at around 8 a.m. last Sunday, August 19.
Estacio was rushed to a hospital in Agoo, La Union but was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.
NDRRMC said as of Monday night, there have been 533 families in Region I affected by the by the rains and floods.
As of 10 a.m., PAGASA said Igme was located 310 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.
It has maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph.
Storm warning signal number 1 remains hoisted over Calayan, Babuyan and Batanes Groups of Islands. The typhoon maintained its northward direction at 11 kph.
