ZAMBOANGA CITY – A trader was abducted in Barangay Labuan in this city on Monday night.

Police said Michelle Panes, 36, was forcibly taken with her husband Noel by about eight armed in the Labuan village, which is located in the western coast of the city.

Jumadil Abdulla, an employee of the victims, said that victims were about to close their store when the suspects, clad in military uniforms, arrived.

The suspects snatched the couple and forced them onto a boat. However, Noel managed to escape.

Abdulla said before fleeing, the suspects seized some P50,000 from the store's cash register.

Barangay Labuan chairman Oning Maravilla said a few minutes after the abduction, barangay officials and members of the regional public safety battalion immediately launched a pursuit operation which resulted in a brief firefight.

No one was injured in the incident.
