MANILA, Philippines – Within hours of the news, friends, partymates, co-workers and even random people have trooped to the house of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo in Naga City since Saturday night to give moral support to his family.

According to a report of ABS-CBN Naga reporter Jonathan Magistrado, several supporters continued to arrive in the Robredo residence to tell the family that they are one with them in praying for the successful rescue of the secretary and his companions.

A woman, who has been there since they heard the news about the plane crash, described Robredo as somebody one can easily approach in case there are problems.

“Nakita namin ang kabaitan niya, mabuti siyang tao. Hindi siya mapagmalaki. Inaasahan namin na buhay pa siya, napakasakit sa aming kalooban. Napakabait niyang tao, kapag may lumalapit sa aking tao na humihingi ng tulong, siya ang nilalapitan ko. Tinutulungan kami,” she said.

Magistrado reported he even got a phone call from an overseas Filipino worker in Doha, Qatar, saying he does not personally know Robredo but he just wanted to let his family know that he is praying for the secretary’s safe return.

A group of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the Philippines also went to Robredo’s house to offer prayers.

Even Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Soliman flew in to Naga City to give moral support to Robredo’s wife, Atty. Maria Leonor Gerona-Robredo, and his three children, Aika, Patricia and Jillian Therese.

The family has already put up a tent outside their home as more people are expected to arrive to show moral suport.

While the search and rescue operations for Robredo is still ongoing, his family is appealing for more prayers from the public for his safe rescue.

Robredo's wife said they will all stay in Naga City while awaiting for more information but once they receive good news, they will immediately fly to Masbate.
