MANILA, Philippines – A teacher was held hostage by two robbers in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on Wednesday afternoon.

At 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Chona Paron and seven months pregnant Analyn Padohilaga were coming back to Coyaoyao Elemetary School from a birthday party along with five other teachers when they noticed two men following them.

They rushed to their school and hid in classrooms. However, the two suspects were able to enter the classroom in which Paron and Padohilaga were in. They announced a hold-up and threatened the two teachers with a homemade gun (sulpak) and a knife, then proceeded to take the teachers’ belongings.

They then left the school, but took Paron along as a hostage. However, Paron was able to flee when the suspect who was holding her allegedly tripped and let her go.

After an hour, police found one of the suspects dead in a sugar cane field. The suspect was identified as Roland Cajulao. Police are looking for his supposed cohort, identified as Rene Escanio.

Investigation is ongoing as to who killed Cajulao.

Classes were temporarily suspended in Coyaoyao Elementary School to ensure the security of the students and teachers. - from a report by Meneil Lopez, ABS-CBN News Negros
