|Digital facial composite of suspect in Tacurong bombing
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has released a digital facial composite (formerly called a cartographic sketch) of one of the possible suspects in the Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat car bombing on Monday that killed 2 people.
The facial composite matched the description of a certain Jay R. Reyes, the suspect who allegedly bought the vehicle that was used as a car bomb.
According to PNP Sultan Kudarat Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Danilo Peralta, the sketch was based on the description of 2 employees of Aila Ria Taxi.
The employees, identified as Apostol Loho and Amy Alerta, told police they sold the Kia Avella owned by Maureen Ella Macasindil to Reyes on August 5.
Reyes, a resident of Cotabato City, was described as a 5'5" to 5'7" male, aged between 30-35 years old, largely built, dark-skinned and speaks with a Maguindanao accent.
Authorities believe Reyes had the vehicle prior to the explosion.
“Kung nakuha niya ito ng August 5, sumabog ng Aug 15, between those times wala namang reported carnapping, so we conclude na siya ang last na may hawak," said Peralta.
Meanwhile, records by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 12 revealed that Macasindil is still the registered owner of the vehicle.
The name Jay Reyes also did not appear in LTO records in Cotabato City.
Regional Director Arlan Mangelen of LTO Region 12 said the agency will cooperate with authorities in the investigation.
Task Force Pareñas
The PNP has also set up Task Force Pareñas, a special group that will investigate the Tacurong blast.
The task force was named after Rocky Pareñas, a tricycle driver who was killed in the explosion.
PNP said it has recovered more 105mm howitzer cannon ammunition, which is believed to be similar to the content of the improvised bomb used in the blast.
Checkpoints in Sultan Kudarat have also been intensified.
