BATANGAS, Philippines - Seven people suspected to be members of a “budol-budol” gang were arrested after victimizing a widow in San Juan town Monday afternoon, police said.
San Juan Police Chief, Superintendent Jonathan Tangonan, identified the robbery suspects as Jerry De Guzman, Benjie Guillen, Ramil Bartolome, Arlene Reyes, Cora Felizardo, Jenny San Juan and Ana Acosta.
According to a report, the police got a call from a concerned citizen that a certain Yolanda De Chavez, 69, of Barangay Coloconto, San Juan, Batangas was abducted by a group of people in San Juan Public Market around 12:00 noon.
Investigations revealed that De Chavez was convinced by the group to give them her jewelries and other valuables in exchange for a bunch of money, apparently as financial support for senior citizens.
“Niyaya daw ng isang babaeng suspek ang biktima at pinasakay sa van tapos pinakitaan ng balumbon ng pera at ibibigay daw ito bilang tulong sa mga senior citizen, pero kailangan may collateral na alahas o anuman daw valuable,” Tangonan said.
He said the group’s modus operandi caught the attention of the barangay police manning the public market. The incident was reported to police.
Subsequently, the San Juan police headed by SPO4 William Perez conducted a checkpoint operation and were able to apprehend the suspects while onboard a van with license number WHR 819 at Barangay Puting Buhangin.
Police said the suspects will be facing charges of theft and abduction.
