MANILA -- The forest fire in Baler, Aurora that started on Wednesday is now under control, authorities said.
According to Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Head Nelson Agargue, they became aware of the forest fire after employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) noticed thick smoke coming from the area of Sitio Diguisit, Barangay Zabali.
Firemen immediately responded but the fire spread fast.
Some residents living near the area, as well as a chopper from the Philippine Air Force, helped put out the fire.
The fire was put under control Friday night, as heavy rains affected the province.
No one was injured in the incident.
Damage caused by the fire is estimated at P10 million.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. -- report from Dennis Datu, DZMM
