MANILA, Philippines – A Cessna aircraft crashed off the coast of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur Thursday morning.
The plane’s pilot, Capt. Tanada Pinto, was rescued by a fisherman identified as Tadjar Sahifa.
Sahifa said he was near the crash site in Sitio Lawis, Barangay Bato and saw that Pinto was alive after the crash.
Other residents rushed to rescue Pinto, who was brought to safety.
Pinto said the plane, owned by a certain Lito Lucas, lost power at about 4,500 feet.
He said the plane underwent maintenance check-up prior to his departure from General Santos City.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines is investigating the cause of the crash. -- Report from Danjo Revilla, ABS-CBN News Davao
