CEBU - A teenage girl was taken into custody by the police after being seen in a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera trying to get outside a mall in Mandaue City wearing new clothes she allegedly stole from a store.
The girl, who claimed she was just 16, allegedly took about P10,000 worth of goods from the mall store.
According to the owner of the mall boutique, the girl's original clothes were even left inside their changing room.
The teenage girl admitted she left the store wearing the new clothes but she said she told the store employees that she had to leave but will be back to pay for the items.
However, the teenager never came back. This prompted the attendants inside the store to chase her. She was caught as she was about to exit the mall premises.
At Mandaue Police Station 2, the alleged shoplifter was released because of her claim that she is just a minor.
The owner of the boutique also said she will not file a complaint against her. However, the police desk officer of the said station drew flak after he took a ''selfie" with the teenager because she was "beautiful".
The alleged shoplifter who originally hails from Leyte is now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare Development.
